Sought-After Full Stack Developer Skills*

A full stack developer should have experience with the following for the front-end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and Bootstrap in addition to at least one of the following advanced front-end frameworks: React, Angular, Vue, or Flow, plus a data and state management tool: Redux, RxJS, NgRx, and finally, a front-end bundling tool like Webpack or Gulp.For back-end server side languages at least one of the following: Java, Python, Rust, plus a framework: Spring, Hibernate, or another (for Java), Flask, Django, or another (for Python), and Rocket, Actix (for Rust)When it comes to databases it’s desirous & beneficial to know a couple: MySQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, PostgresSQL, Cassandra, Redis, etc.Full-stack devs should also have a good foundation or understanding of in security best practices. For more information on security for full-stack developers, check out these checklists by LogRocket.Other skills (integrations, code management, & deployment):◊ Collaboration­–­Git (a must), bug/issue tracker tools (JIRA, Backlog), and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery tools (Jenkins, Bamboo)◊ Deployment & setting up cloud servers for hosting–AWS, Microsoft Azure, GoogleCloud, etc◊ Server management–Docker, Kubernetes, Node.js, New Relic, etc. & related tools like Jenkins◊ Ability to integrate with 3rd party services*Note: skills sought/needed will vary based on individual employer needsNETEFFECTS PRO POINTERLots of companies are moving away from the siloed front and back-end development teams–requiring developers who can work on all levels of the application stack. Developers who can scratch this itch, will be more sought after. With that said, if you’re solely front or back-end as a developer, now’s the time to learn more and increase the value you can offer to potential employers, as this position is sure to continue to see upward growth & demand in the coming years.
