A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study. ~ Chinese Proverb
Meet 95-year old Lou Bader.
He’s a NetEffects’ part-time employee. He’s enthusiastic; he’s energized; he’s a lot of fun (entered the staff Halloween Party contest as Elvis)…and most importantly, he’s a trusted business consultant to his son, NetEffects’ President, Jack Bader.
Lou recently moved to St. Louis with his lovely wife and life partner of 62 years (and his business consultant) Blanche, to be closer to their family. But his advanced years have not put a dent in his enthusiasm, his willingness to work, and especially his ability to give good, sound business advice both to Jack and his staff when called on.
“He has an infinite array of business wisdom and that provides us with some incredible strategic guidance,” said Chief Financial Officer Claire Nottingham who serves as Lou’s contact at NetEffects.
That business experience includes stints as a longshoreman, worker on the Manhattan Project, landowner, a developer and home builder of affordable housing, a dairy farm owner, poultry plant operator, Atlantic City jitney owner/operator/driver, a used car dealer, plumbing supplier, a gas station owner and a Laundromat owner/operator.
He brought to his hometown of Pilesgrove Township, New Jersey, one of the area’s first mixed-use developments in what was basically pasture land.
For 14 years, he served on the National Advisory Committee of the National Insurance Exchange, the professional organization of the cleaning industry. He pioneered in the development of the first coin-operated self-service car wash on the East Coast and the first drive through coin-operated car washing lane.
When Lou and Blanche officially “retired” in late 2006, a proclamation from the Borough of Woodstown, NJ cited them for “providing jobs for residents, economic vitality to our community…and general development of the community…making the Borough a quality community in which to live, work and play.”
“Rain or shine, Lou is in the office every Thursday and pitches in with whatever work we have that day, whether it’s a perplexing business challenge or an exciting opportunity, Lou can dive right to the heart of the matter and provide sage guidance. We turn to Lou for his insight. He keeps us centered on the basics!”
As the Chinese Proverb says, she points out, “A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study. ”
“We can always depend on Lou every Thursday – he’s ready to hit the ground running with his positive and fun loving outlook. He’s a ray of sunshine in our office, and everyone loves it,” Claire points out.
“Abraham Lincoln once said, ‘And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.’ What an apt way to describe Lou Bader,” she added.
“I’m obviously pleased to have my dad, who taught me so much, be able to use his wisdom and knowledge to help us in any number of ways,” Jack said proudly with a wide grin, his arm around Lou.
Lou will help NetEffects face the challenges and opportunities of the future in a much stronger position due to his wise business counsel. What an asset!
